The “Ham and Fixins” meal delivery event developed very quickly. A sponsorship from T-Mobile was finalized on December 11th and word went out to the Members of Sun City Civic Association using all available communications channels. Then, on December 22nd, 700 meals were delivered by hearty volunteers to SCCA Members.
Mary Ann Weigner spoke for many people when she said “I want to thank you, Sun City Civic Association and T-Mobile … It was not only a great gesture, but it was delicious right down to the last crumb of the dinner roll and spoonful of peach cobbler. I truly appreciated the meal. As so many other families, I cancelled my plans to fly to my daughter's for Xmas celebration with my grandchildren, who are upset because I cancelled Thanksgiving, as well, on them…”
SCCA is very thankful to all who made this event possible, including T-Mobile and the volunteers who took over the streets spreading holiday cheer. We look forward to the time when we can, again, enjoy a festive meal together, a meal unburdened by the numerical limitations of a meal delivery event.

While the holidays usually bring a complex combination of emotions, all the challenges of 2020 will likely pile on top of each other during the holidays. SCCA is offering a free presentation on dealing with the blues around the traditional holiday season as well the stresses of COVID-19.
The presentation will be offered via phone and Zoom, at the same time. Pick one date: Tuesday, December 15th or Thursday, December 17th. On both days, the presentation will run from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. The presentation is offered through the PEARLS program at the Inland Caregiver Resource Center. Participants do not have to be caregivers to join in the learning.
Registration is required. To sign up, select one of the dates and send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. You may also drop a note through the mail slot in the office door. Be sure to include your contact information.
